It depends on Friends of the National Zoo and donations to continue to protect animals and habitats and to educate people about wildlife, sustainability, and science. 

Pencils of Promise

Pencils of Promise partners with local communities and organizations to build schools of early-stage education in developing nations for some of the world’s most impoverished and undereducated children.

Women for Women International

Women for Women International provides women survivors of war, civil strife and other conflicts with the tools and resources to move from crisis and poverty to stability and self-sufficiency, thereby promoting viable civil societies. They’re changing the world one woman at a time.

New knowledge gained by funding scientific and clinical research initiatives will lead to more positive outcomes and improved quality of life for all lung cancer patients.

Aid for Africa works with its partners on the ground in Africa to find solutions to the education, health, development, and wildlife challenges facing the region. Whether we are distributing books to school children, introducing medical strategies to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS, supporting small businesses for women, or finding new approaches to protect endangered elephants and lions, Aid for Africa is working to build a better future for Africa’s children, families, and communities. 

Bake Me Home

Bake Me Home is a nonprofit dedicated to providing homeless and disadvantaged moms and kids with direct services that encourage shared family experiences. They also lead an initiative called Bake Me Back Home where they send the comforts of home to troops serving abroad. 

The Pink Agenda

 The Pink Agenda is a nonprofit committed to raising money for breast cancer care and research and awareness of the disease among young professionals. The organization’s efforts are intended to not only expedite the eventual discovery of a cure for the disease, but also to raise awareness among young professionals, resulting in earlier detection, as well as an understanding of where to go for support and resources if ever faced with a breast cancer diagnosis.

Baking for Good Featured Cause Contest - September Edition

It’s that time again! Our featured cause contest is here, and this month we’re focusing on kids and education in honor of back-to-school. 

Here’s how it works: As a Baking for Good facebook fan (if you’re not a fan yet, just LIKE us!), make sure to visit our page this week. Look for the “Help us determine our Featured Nonprofit” poll on our wall and vote for one of three causes. It’s that easy!

Read about the September contenders below and help us decide who should be featured. Voting for the September cause begins on Monday, August 22 at 11am EST and closes on Friday, August 26 at 5pm EST.

Over 350 people voted in our featured cause contest for August, and we’re excited to announce that the winner is Roots of Hope! Roots of Hope (also known as Raices de Esperanza) is a network of more than 3000 students and young professionals across the U.S. and abroad focused on empowering Cuban youth. They work to encourage young people in and outside of Cuba to share experiences, resources, and information in order to build bridges and networks of collaboration and to create a better future for Cuba.
