    A Chocolate Night to Remember

    This weekend we enjoyed an awesome opportunity to showcase our mission and goodies at 92nd Street Y’s Chocolate Fest: A Walk-Around Tasting in NYC. Chocoholics roamed the room tasting chocolate samples from several local and national purveyors. They even had the chance to pair some of their tastes with coordinating wines. We treated patrons to samples of our chocolate crackles and chocolate chip brownies — which sold out so quickly that there was nearly a duel for the last bag! 

    We had great fun visiting each booth and meeting our fellow vendors as well. It was a little tough to get to sleep after all those chocolate samples, but it was well worth it, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s Chocolate Fest.

    Baking for Good was invited to the Cool Products Expo this past Friday, hosted by NYU Stern’s Entrepreneurs’ Exchange Club, for their 1st Annual EEX Summit.  It was great representing our mission on NYU’s campus and checking out what other cool products are out there by young entrepreneurs like us! We handed out some popular BFG treats and networked with sharp future business leaders. Such a fun night and we hope to be back next year.

    Last week, the NY Post asked us to make custom sugar cookies for the season finales of LOST, Desperate Housewives, and Grey’s Anatomy. We didn’t stop there and have now been creating custom cookies for all sorts of fun occasions, including these Superman themed cookies for a 2-year-old’s birthday party.     Chocolate Covered Strawberries for Harboring Hearts

    At Baking for Good, we love special requests. So when a brand new nonprofit, Harboring Hearts, invited us to be involved in their kickoff event, we jumped at the chance. When we thought about what to make for their gala, dark chocolate covered strawberries immediately came to mind. 300 of them!

    Turns out making 300 chocolate covered strawberries doesn’t take all that long (took us about 2 hours, start to finish). Which means you have no excuse not to whip up a dozen of them for dessert every now and then! Super easy. Here’s how:



    Chocolate - we like dark / semi-sweet. Approximately 1 oz per 10 strawberries.


    Place a piece of parchment or wax paper on a tray or plate.

    Put the chocolate into a heatproof bowl that will rest on top of a saucepan (if you have one, a double boiler is perfect for this). Fill the saucepan (or the bottom part of your double boiler) with an inch or two of water and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Set the bowl of chocolate over the water, making sure the water doesn’t touch the bottom of the bowl. Stir the chocolate as it melts, and as soon as it has all melted, remove it from the heat.

    Dip each strawberry into the chocolate, one at a time, and then place on the parchment paper. Once you’ve filled the tray, place it in the refrigerator for 20-30 minutes to set the chocolate.

    Serve and enjoy!
